Volunteering Opportunities
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Glusburn Institute — around 40 generous people whose time and support make it possible for us to run our events, activities and community projects throughout the year.
From helping run events and activity groups to supporting behind the scenes, there’s a role to suit almost any interest. Many volunteers say it’s a great way to meet new people and feel connected to the local community, all while helping keep this much-loved centre running.
Whether you have a spare couple of hours a week, or can only help out now and again, every contribution makes a difference. No previous experience is needed — just a friendly attitude.
Our Volunteer Coordinator Jo will be happy to have a quick chat — maybe over a cuppa — show you around the Centre, and introduce you to the team. We offer a flexible range of opportunities, so you can choose how often and how you’d like to help out.

Events Team - Front of House
Throughout the year, our auditorium sees a wide range of events. From live music, theatre and dance, the annual pantomime and gang show, to film shows and also private parties, our venue plays host to 50+ shows, theatre and performances each year.
The Front of House team is there to provide a warm yet professional welcome to our customers, whilst checking tickets and directing them to seats. They also keep an eye on health and safety in the auditorium before, during and after the show, ensuring that everybody has a great experience with us.
We operate a flexible rota, so you don’t have to commit to helping at every show and we can accommodate your other commitments. Previous experience is not essential, support and training will be given.
Getting involved can be great fun and very rewarding. And of course, as part of the events team, you get to enjoy the show for free! If you are sociable, confident dealing with members of the public and enjoy meeting new people, then please get in touch.

The Bar and Catering team really help to make everybody’s night flow smoothly! We have a well-stocked licensed bar and also offer hot drinks and snacks. Depending on the type of event this can sometimes be an extremely busy role, but you’ll always be with an experienced team member as you learn the ropes.

Wellbeing Café Befriender
Our Community Wellbeing Café is held in the recently refurbished Studio at Glusburn Community & Arts Centre. Set up with the help of Pioneer Projects and now working with Art-Star, supported by funding from Stronger Communities, the National Lottery Communities Fund and Bristol Street Motors (Vauxhall Keighley), our aim is to create a friendly and welcoming environment open to all, particularly suitable for those facing social isolation or issues with mental health. Within these relaxed groups, we will offer keyworker-led creative sessions and activities.
Can you help? We’re looking for individuals who can befriend participants and support them with creative activities. We’d like to hear from people who are good listeners, good at starting conversations, happy to partake in activities as well as helping with clearing up at the end of the session. Previous experience is not essential, support and training will be given.
The Café runs on Monday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. We operate a flexible rota, so you won’t have to commit to helping every week, and we can accommodate your other commitments.

Can you help? We’re looking for individuals who are happy in the kitchen, taking customer orders, preparing and serving hot and cold drinks and snacks, clearing tables and washing up. If you bake, that’s even better! Previous experience is not essential, support and training will be given.
The Wellbeing Cafe runs on Monday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. We also have occasional cafes at weekends and at events like our Christmas Craft Fair. We operate a flexible rota, so you won’t have to commit to helping every week, and we can easily accommodate your other commitments.
Getting involved can be great fun and very rewarding. If you enjoy meeting new people, then please get in touch. If you’re new to volunteering, helping in the kitchen is a great way to start.
